Skyrail’s “brutalism” across our suburbs

There’s a forceful opinion piece in today’s Herald Sun, highlighting the terrible effects sky rail will have across our suburbs – towering high concrete pillars, overshadowing, constant noise and vibration, ugly barriers through communities.

Author Michael Kroger likens it to the “brutalist” architecture of past years, where centralised state planners imposed their designs on communities with no regard for the people who will actually have to live or work near them. It’s a plan nobody voted for and nobody was consulted about.

We all want level crossings removed. The previous Coalition government removed, planned and funded large numbers, Labor promised to remove more. However, it needs to be done properly, not with an inferior “quick fix” that will be a blight on local communities for generations to come.
