Jobs promise heading for failure
Who remembers Labor promising over and over again before the last election that they would create 100,000 new full time jobs within two years – their so-called “Back to Work” plan?
Well, Labor have admitted today they’re unlikely to deliver on their promise. In fact, the key part of their policy – subsidising employers to take on long term unemployed – has created barely 5,000 new jobs.
To add insult to injury, Labor’s Treasurer, Tim Pallas, is now claiming their 100,000 full time jobs promise was not a promise at all, it was a “stretch target”! If you can’t keep a promise, you should at least have the decency to admit it, instead of pretending you never made the promise in the first place.
Labor have now failed on their three key election promises. They’ve failed to create 100,000 full time jobs. They’ve replaced proper level crossing removals with Skyrail. And they’ve thrown away $1.1 billion to NOT build a road, when they said they would end the contract without it costing a dollar.
