Among the many media reports on yesterday’s Family Violence Royal Commission report, the front page of today’s Herald Sun sums it up well – “Time for Action”.
The government has made a big investment in the Royal Commission. It’s now time for things to be done.
High up on the list needs to be more police, because all the laws on the statute book are of no use unless there are enough people on the front line to apply them and enforce them.
Rising levels of crime, including family violence crime, are stretching police resources thinner by the day.
A heavy responsibility is placed on police in responding to family violence, and we need more police if Victoria Police are going to be able to do their job properly, to protect the community against family violence crime, and against all other crime as well.
