Coalition to fund major upgrades at Box Hill High School
A re-elected Napthine Coalition Government will provide $5 million to Box Hill High School for major upgrades, Member for Box Hill Robert Clark announced today.
The election commitment funding will enable the school to build a new performing arts centre and refurbish and extend existing buildings.
Mr Clark said he was delighted to announce the $5 million election commitment, which will allow the school to accept even more students and give students the opportunity to perform and rehearse in a new state-of-the-art centre.
“Box Hill High School has always had a strong performing arts program, but much of it is currently tucked away in old portables at the very back of the school,” Mr Clark said.
“This $5 million funding commitment from a re-elected Coalition Government will give students first class facilities that will allow them to develop their passions and skills even further.”
The Coalition Government has previously provided Box Hill High School with two new double-storey relocatable buildings, which will be ready for students for the 2015 school year.
Mr Clark said that according to the Victorian Auditor-General, the former Labor Government left the Victorians with a $420 million school maintenance backlog.
“Labor failed to fund more than 200 school upgrades or modernisations that it promised and Labor also cut maintenance funding for schools by 20 per cent between 2000 and 2010,” Mr Clark said.
In contrast, the Coalition Government has delivered $1.1 billion for school infrastructure, including 24 new schools and upgrades to hundreds of existing schools.
As part of this investment, the Coalition Government has delivered $5.2 million for Blackburn Primary School, and $1.2 million for Koonung Secondary College. A re-elected Coalition Government will also deliver a further $8.8 million to further upgrade Koonung Secondary College.
“Only the Coalition is committed to supporting local families and students and has a proven record providing these much-needed funds,” Mr Clark said.
“I look forward to continuing to work with Box Hill High School in a re-elected Napthine Government to deliver the new performing arts centre and other upgrades that will benefit students, parents and the broader community.”
