Fire services at risk as Premier moves to cave in to union
Today’s Herald Sun reports deep divisions within the Andrews government, as Premier Andrews moves to surrender to the demands of the United Firefighters Union despite the strong opposition of his Emergency Services Minister.
Fire service chiefs are right when they warn Victoria can’t afford to have Premier Andrews hand veto powers over the Country Fire Authority and its volunteers to the militant union bosses of the UFU.
Firefighters are entitled to fair and reasonable pay and conditions for the work they do, but the future of our fire services shouldn’t be sold out by the promises Mr Andrews made in order to get union support for his election campaign.
