“The sky’s the limit” as government axes height controls

Labor’s attempt to force high density development into Melbourne’s eastern suburbs continues. Victoria’s Planning Minister has unilaterally changed planning rules to allow unlimited height development along key commercial strips in Boroondara.

This comes alongside the state Labor government’s move to reduce protections in neighbourhood residential zones, and Federal Labor’s push for more population growth in the eastern suburbs.

It’s the height of hypocrisy that the Planning Minister is arguing mandatory limits are needed for Melbourne’s CBD, but at the same time he’s busy tearing up mandatory height limits in Boroondara.

It’s in everyone’s interests to have clear and certain rules about what can and can’t be built in different zones, and to provide proper protection against inappropriate developments that destroy the amenity of our neighbourhoods.
