New CCTV cameras to improve safety in Box Hill
Safety and security will be boosted in Box Hill with Victorian Coalition Government funding of $250,000 for CCTV cameras.
Member for Box Hill, Robert Clark MP, announced today the funding would enable cameras to be installed in and around Box Hill Gardens.
Mr Clark said the cameras will allow residents and those who frequent the Box Hill shopping precinct to feel safer while shopping or transiting, particularly in the evenings.
“There has been a need for upgraded security in Box Hill,” Mr Clark said.
“Residents have in the past spoken out about their uneasiness walking alone through the gardens and there have also been reports of graffiti and vandalism.
“The installation of the CCTV cameras should alleviate these problems.
“The new cameras will boost safety for people walking to and from Box Hill Hospital and Box Hill TAFE, whether it’s to visit loved ones or to attend after-hour classes.
“People should feel confident in moving around Box Hill safely and these cameras will assist in that.”
The cameras will be another crucial addition to enhancing security in Box Hill, following the Victorian Coalition Government’s delivery of Victoria Police Protective Security Officers at Box Hill railway station and extra police on the streets.
Minister for Crime Prevention, the Hon Edward O’Donohue MLC said the installation of the cameras will enhance community safety and reduce crime and anti-social behaviour.
“The funding will increase our power to prevent and detect criminal behaviour, and the cameras will deter people from committing crimes, vandalism and engaging in anti-social behaviour in the Box Hill Gardens,” Min O’Donohue said.
“The Coalition Government is investing in multiple CCTV camera projects in communities all over Victoria and we are committed to helping councils create safe public spaces.”
The cameras will be installed by Whitehorse City Council and monitored by Victoria Police to enable a rapid response to any incidents.
