Contract awarded for next section of Box Hill to Ringwood bike path
Member for Box Hill Robert Clark today announced that a contract to design and construct the next section of the Box Hill to Ringwood bike path has been awarded to Civilex Victoria.
Mr Clark said that the contract will deliver approximately 620 metres of off-road bike path from Linsley Street to Sagoe Lane in Box Hill.
“I congratulate Civilex Victoria, who will deliver this next section of the project as part of the Victorian Coalition Government’s commitment to the construction of 10 kilometres of walking and cycling paths between Box Hill and Ringwood,” Mr Clark said.
Once complete, the Box Hill to Ringwood Bike Path will run within one kilometre of many schools and colleges.
“This will make walking or riding to school much easier and safer for hundreds of students,” Mr Clark said.
“The path is also providing a sustainable transport solution that also supports the health and wellbeing of the community.”
Around 1.3 kilometres of path was opened in July this year as part of the Mitcham Level Crossing Removal project, with another section of shared user path between Albert Street and Wantirna road in Ringwood delivered as part of the $1.5 million Box Hill and Ringwood Cycle Connections project.
Mr Clark said other sections of the path are currently under design development following a series of community information sessions held last month.
“Community consultation is an important part of this project and feedback from the sessions is now being considered in finalising the alignment in the remaining sections of path.”
The Box Hill to Ringwood Bike Path is being funded by the Victorian Government for more than $10 million. The majority of the bike path is due to be complete by early 2016.
Works are due to start on the section between Linsley Street and Sagoe Lane in December 2014 and will take approximately three months to complete, weather permitting.
VicRoads is leading the overall project, with Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM) managing the contract for this section of path.
