Chinese Gambling Concern Inc launches new support services

I was pleased today to launch the Chinese Gambling Concern Inc’s new gambling support services for the Chinese community in Victoria, funded by a grant from the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation (VRGF). It is important that help for people with gambling problems, and advice about how to avoid problem gambling, is available for people with a range of different language and cultural backgrounds. Chinese Gambling Concern Inc was established in 1996 and has operated to da…te with volunteer and part time staff. The VRGF funding will enable the CGCI to introduce a range of new and expanded support services. For further information about Chinese Gambling Concern, Inc, visit: cgci.org.au.

The establishment of the VRGF has been a central part of the Coalition Government’s initiatives to help tackle problem gambling. The funding of $150 million over four years providef for the VRGF is the largest financial commitment to address problem gambling in Australian history. Through the Foundation, Victoria now has one of the most comprehensive strategies for prevention, education, research and support services in Australia. Today's independent report shows that regular CityLink motorists will be slugged thousands of dollars each in extra tolls to pay for the West Gate Tunnel.

Today's 50/50 column in the Herald Sun Melbourne. Daniel Andrews is trying to get mobile phones out of the classroom but it will cost 12 million dollars to purchase lockers to put the mobile phones in for all schools. What happened to teachers instructing students to leave their mobile phone in their general locker and if parents need to contact a student they can phone the school office. Cost to each school zero. If every child Leaves their phone in the locker with the rest of their stuff. The 12 million dollars saved could go to the farmers.
