Busy Box Hill intersection gets safety upgrade

State Member for Box Hill, Robert Clark, today announced $100,000 has been allocated to improve the safety of a Box Hill intersection, through the Safer Roads Infrastructure Program (SRIP).

“The intersection of Station and Severn Streets will receive some important improvement works,” Mr Clark said.

“Vehicles turning into Station Street from Severn Street are regularly failing to give way to oncoming traffic. The upgrade should alleviate this issue by improving sight distance for motorists.

“This will be achieved by relocating parking bays and parking signage, improving street lighting and upgrading line marking and signage from ‘Give Way’ to ‘Stop’,” Mr Clark said.

“While the intersection is in a residential area, both Station Street and Severn Street carry traffic in and out of Box Hill’s busy hospital and shopping precincts. It is crucial that these roads are safe for all motorists.”

The funding is provided by the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) through the Safer Roads Infrastructure Program and is part of a 10-year commitment of $650 million.
