Box Hill celebrates the Year of the Sheep
On Saturday, 14 February, Box Hill celebrated the coming of the Year of the Sheep, with an enjoyable and successful Chinese New Year Festival.
The official opening was attended by the Liberal Party Leader, Matthew Guy, and many other fellow Liberal MPs, including Mary Wooldridge, Bruce Atkinson, Neil Angus, Graham Watt, Dee Ryall, Tim Smith, John Pesutto and Michael Sukkar, the Federal Member for Deakin.
Matthew Guy, whose own family is Ukrainian, spoke about the importance of festivals such as Chinese New Year to teach younger generations about their culture and inheritance, and so that Australians can learn more about each other’s cultures.
My thanks to the many people who visited our stall at the festival. Our calligraphy volunteers were kept busy writing their very popular New Year greetings, and our balloons were popular with our younger visitors.
My congratulations to Asian Business Association of Whitehorse, Whitehorse City Council and the many volunteers who helped make the festival possible.
