Win for CFMEU as Labor repeals move-on laws

The Labor government has today pushed through Parliament legislation to repeal the move-on laws that allow police to take action to end unlawful blockades and pickets.

The repeal removes the power for police to act against blockades, pickets and protests that deliberately block law-abiding Victorians from entering or leaving shops, factories, offices, building sites or other premises.

Labor’s legislation gives a total exemption for industrial or political protests even where the safety of others is being endangered.

This legislation is a big payoff by Labor to the CFMEU and other militant unions who are Daniel Andrews’ key supporters.

It will also open the way for the return of violent and extremist protesters such as the BDS protesters who blockade and try to force the closure of Jewish-owned businesses.
