墨爾本需要機場鐵路線

上週公佈的一項研究發現，墨爾本竟然是世界最優良的 50 個機場中罕見沒有提供機場鐵路線的六個機場之一。現今交通尖峰時段前往機場的路程已是如此的緩慢而艱難，不幸的是這交通擁堵的情況在未來數年內會隨著墨爾本人口的增長而日趨惡化。

沒有機場鐵路線不但給墨爾本居民帶來不便，更不利於遊客並給他們增加通勤的成本。 其結果導致維州錯過許多觀光客和貿易進出口的商機。

這正是為何前自由黨政府當初計畫修建機場鐵路線，一個現任工黨政府一上台即遺棄的鐵路計畫。 我們需要政府把機場鐵路線重新放回維州的交通運輸計畫當中。

Melbourne needs airport rail link

A study published last week has found that Melbourne is one of only six of the world’s top 50 airports that don’t have a rail link.

It is already slow and difficult go to or from Melbourne airport in peak traffic. Unfortunately delays will continue to get worse over the years ahead, as Melbourne’s population grows.

This is not only bad for people living in Melbourne, it is also bad for visitors and adds to transport costs. This means Victoria is likely to miss out on tourists and on export and import opportunities.

That’s why the former Liberal government planned to build an airport rail link, a plan that was abandoned by the new Labor government. We need the government to put an airport rail link back into Victoria’s transport plans.
