Construction wage deal to push up costs
It was reported last week that some large construction companies have agreed to pay big pay rises of 5% a year to building workers. This is very concerning, because it will make building in Victoria more expensive.
Unfortunately, because the Andrews government has given huge pay rises to the unions that supported it at the state election, this has created expectations that now risk driving up costs across the Victorian economy.
We need construction industry wage deals to be affordable and sustainable, and with genuine work practice reforms that will lift productivity.
That is why it is important for the Turnbull government to be re-elected so it can bring back the Australian Building and Construction Commission.
