Victorians will now have greater access to the state’s war heritage and history through a new app, ‘100 Places for 100 Years’, for use on smart phones and tablets. This app will guide tourists to 100 sites that recognise the contribution of men and women who served in a range of conflicts including World War One, the Vietnam War and recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. This is not only a great way to mark our veterans’ heritage and history, it will also provide a tourism… boost for Victoria’s terrific regional and rural locations as people discover their family links.
The app covers 60 towns in Victoria, spanning suburban areas and branching out to regional Victoria. Visitors are guided through each site with historical narratives, videos and links with more information. A set of eight companion, location-specific, brochures can be downloaded from Victoria’s Anzac Centenary website by those without a mobile device: http://goo.gl/L0PDWi.
This app has fully funded by the Napthine Coalition Government and created in partnership with Heritage Victoria and the Victorian Heritage Council. It is available for download via the Apple App Store and Google Play. For more information, please go to: http://goo.gl/NnVGFl.
