This week in State Parliament – 20 August 2015
This week in State Parliament, Liberal and National MPs exposed the fact that Labor has not increased police numbers by a single police officer since coming to office, despite Victoria’s continuing population growth.
We also highlighted Labor’s broken promise that they would keep Victoria Police PSOs on railway stations until the last late night train, thus exposing commuters to the very risk of crime that PSOs should be there to prevent.
We called on the government to extend the consultation period for volunteer firefighters to give their views to the government’s rushed review of the Country Fire Authority, and exposed the fact even the Deputy Premier has told firefighters he supports such an extension.
We questioned the Corrections Minister over how his mishandling of the introduction of smoking bans in prisons had resulted in a prisoner riot, when other States and Territories, and New Zealand, have been able to introduce similar smoking bans without problems.
We also continued to highlight the cost to businesses and jobs of Labor’s Grand Final eve public holiday, after Labor ignored the overwhelming number of submissions it received opposing it.
