Labor must stop trying to shut down rorts inquiry

First Labor Party MPs rort their Parliamentary allowances to pay for election campaign organisers. Then, they misuse even more public money to try to block the Ombudsman from investigating what they have done.

The Ombudsman is an independent officer of the Parliament whose job includes investigating matters referred by either House of Parliament, as this rorting by Labor MPs has been.

It’s appalling that Premier Andrews and the Labor Party are trying to block and shut down any investigation of what appears to be a deliberate and calculated mis-use of public funds.

If everything is above board, as Mr Andrews claims, why won’t he simply direct his MPs and staff to fully cooperate with the police and Ombudsman’s investigations, and let the truth be known?

Mr Andrews has been quick to demand accountability for rorting allegations in the past, but when it comes to his and the Labor Party’s rorting, it’s a different story.

As today’s Herald Sun editorial rightly says, “The lengths to which the Andrews Government is prepared to go in frustrating a proper inquiry are astonishing.”
