EWL consortium seeks compensation from Labor government

Today’s Sunday Herald-Sun reports the East West Link consortium has officially issued breach notices against the State Government as the first step in seeking compensation for Daniel Andrews’ reckless promise to tear up the EWL contract.

Victorian taxpayers look set to pay a heavy price for Mr Andrews’ dishonest pre-election claim that the contract was unenforceable. As Shadow Treasurer, Michael O’Brien, says, it’s time for Mr Andrews to understand that “the rule of law applies even to him and his Government”.

We are fortunate in Victoria to live in a state where people have rights that can be enforced in independent courts. Not even a Premier can just tear up a legally binding contract and expect to get away with it.
