No action on Labor’s Box Hill Interchange election promise

It’s now three months since the State election, and there has still been no word from the government about the ministerial advisory group on the Box Hill Interchange that Labor promised before the election.

The lack of action is particularly disappointing because in September last year the previous Transport Minister, Terry Mulder, met with Federation Centres and other stakeholders at my request and arranged for further work and consultations about the redevelopment of the shopping centre and interchange.

Indeed, it seems Labor only promised to set up a “ministerial advisory group” because they knew this was happening. Now, it seems the work that was underway under the Coalition has come to a complete halt under Labor.

With Federation Centres now keen to look at upgrading their Box Hill shopping centres, we can’t afford to let the opportunity be lost. Labor needs to get their ministerial advisory group up and running. Labor said the group would be chaired by a local MP, and I would be happy to chair it on a bi-partisan basis.

The good news is that Whitehorse Council are still proceeding with their own Box Hill First program looking at the future of Box Hill and the transport interchange, but if this is to get results it needs the new Labor government to commit to the project.
