Letter to the Whitehorse Leader Editor
Dear Editor
Despite complaints by Vermont South resident Mr Nick Bishop (“Left on the platform”, September 27), Laburnum commuters have weekday city-bound trains stopping on average every seven minutes between 7.01am and 9.00am.
It’s important to have a mix of local and express trains during weekday peak periods. Having all trains stop at Laburnum would be unfair to longer distance travellers.
Thanks to the Victorian Coalition Government, Laburnum passengers now benefit from trains every 10 minutes between Flinders Street and Ringwood during the day on weekends. Since its election in late 2010, the Coalition Government has introduced 146 extra weekly Metro train trips on the Belgrave/Lilydale lines.
Public transport will further improve under a re-elected Coalition Government, with Zone 1 and 2 travel for the price of a Zone 1 fare from 1 January 2015 and projects such as Melbourne Rail Link, an airport rail link and the Blackburn level crossing removal.
Yours sincerely
