CCTV cameras to combat crime in Box Hill
Community safety will be boosted with new CCTV cameras about to be switched on in Box Hill.
Member for Box Hill Robert Clark said the Victorian Coalition Government has delivered on its election commitment, providing $250,000 in funding through its Community Crime Prevention Program for Whitehorse Council to install nine cameras and upgrade CCTV infrastructure in Box Hill.
“Delivery of this $250,000 election commitment will boost safety for people using Box Hill Gardens or going to and from the hospital, TAFE or the Box Hill shopping centre,” Mr Clark said.
“The cameras will also help deter vandalism and anti-social behaviour, with police able to monitor the cameras from Box Hill police station.
“This expansion of the CCTV network will build on the existing network of cameras around the Box Hill shopping district and laneways.”
Six of the additional cameras have been installed at:
- Corner Whitehorse Road and Elgar Road
- Nelson Road (2 cameras)
- Box Hill Gardens (3 cameras)
The final three cameras will soon be installed at:
- Corner Elgar Road and Arnold Street
- Corner Nelson Road and Whitehorse Road
- Bruce Street
The cameras are owned and maintained by Whitehorse Council, and will be operated and monitored by Victoria Police at the Box Hill Police Station.
The $250,000 City of Whitehorse CCTV network expansion is part of the Victorian Government’s $35 million Community Crime Prevention Program which is building safer communities throughout Victoria.
Whitehorse Council is aiming to have all the new cameras switched on and operational by the end of July.
