Juvenile weapons offences soar

There’s yet another report today of soaring levels of juvenile crime and violence – this time guns and weapons offences.

Crime gangs are allegedly using juveniles because the gangs believe they will get lighter sentences in the Children’s Court.

With a police force stretched thinner every day, soft sentences and the government actually making bail laws weaker for juvenile offenders, it’s no wonder young offenders treat the law with contempt.

A society can only function if people have respect for the law and respect for each other. As I’ve said before, it’s much better if young people learn those values at home with loving families. But where they can’t or won’t, the law needs to teach that actions have consequences, and must properly protect the community from criminal behaviour.
