Government ignores calls to bring back move-on laws
The Andrews government continues to ignore pleas from police to bring back the move-on laws that Labor repealed.
These laws gave police the power to head off violent protests before they happened, but now police have to wait until violence breaks out before they can do act.
As the police association says “Weakened, watered down or repealed legislation makes the job for our members a lot more difficult.
“(And) the courts need to do their fair share of the heavy lifting, to impose sentences which will act as a deterrent.”
