Attorney-General Robert Clark today announced the appointments of David Faram to the Magistrates’ Court of Victoria and Magistrate Barry Braun as a Deputy Chief Magistrate.

Mr Faram is a partner of the law firm Faram Ritchie Davies in Shepparton and brings over 30 years of legal experience to the position.

Mr Faram graduated from Monash University in 1975 and was admitted to practice as a barrister and solicitor in 1977. He has practised predominantly in criminal and family law.

Mr Faram has also been a leading figure in the Law Institute of Victoria over many years. He joined the Law Institute Council in 1998, and was elected as President in 2002, thereafter continuing to serve on the Law Institute Council until 2008. Mr Faram was awarded Life Membership in 2008 for his service to the Institute and became a solicitor member of the Legal Services Board in 2010.

Mr Clark said Mr Faram brought great dedication and legal experience to the Magistrates’ Court.

“I congratulate Mr Faram on his appointment, and I wish him well in his future contribution to the state’s judicial system,” Mr Clark said.

Magistrate Barry Braun was appointed as a Magistrate in 1989. He has wide experience presiding over a diverse range of matters, and is currently a member of the Civil Rules Committee.

“Mr Braun has a distinguished record of service to the Magistrates’ Court to date, and I wish him every success in his new role as a Deputy Chief Magistrate,” Mr Clark said.
