New County Court judge appointed
Attorney-General Robert Clark today announced the appointment of John Jordan SC to the County Court of Victoria.
Mr Clark said Mr Jordan would bring to the court nearly four decades of experience in the law.
Mr Jordan graduated from Melbourne University with a Bachelor of Laws with Honours in 1971, followed by a Master of Laws from Monash University in 1975 and a Bachelor of Arts from Melbourne University in 1977.
After undertaking national service in 1972 and 1973, graduating as a platoon commander and later rising to the rank of captain, he joined the Victorian bar in 1973 and was appointed a Senior Counsel in 2000.
Mr Jordan practises primarily in personal injury and other common law matters, as well as practising in criminal law matters earlier in his career.
Mr Jordan was a foundation member of the Kensington Community Legal Service, where he served for 10 years as a volunteer. He also founded a free legal-aid scheme at Australian Army Bases in Victoria in 1973.
Outside of the law, Mr Jordan’s football career has included playing as full forward for the Collingwood Football Club Reserves in 1971 and serving as an Honorary Director of the AFL Victoria Board from 1999 to 2010.
Mr Jordan has also combined sporting interests and the law through serving as counsel assisting an Australian Cricket Board Inquiry from 1998 to 1999 and as counsel assisting International Cricket Council hearings in 2008.
“I congratulate Mr Jordan on his appointment and look forward to him continuing to serve the Victorian legal system in his new role on the bench,” Mr Clark said.
Mr Jordan’s appointment will fill the vacancy created by the recent retirement of Her Honour Judge Margaret Rizkalla.
