New appointment to the Magistrates’ Court
Attorney-General Robert Clark today announced the appointment of Ross Maxted to the Magistrates’ Court of Victoria.
Mr Maxted brings over 30 years of legal experience to the position, having been admitted to practice in 1980 and becoming a member of the Victorian Bar the same year.
Mr Maxted practised initially in criminal and family law, later concentrating his practice in the areas of civil and commercial litigation.
Mr Maxted was also admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory in 1999, where he practised full-time for one year and later as a visiting counsel.
Mr Clark said Mr Maxted brought a wide range of expertise and knowledge to the Magistrates Court.
“Mr Maxted is a highly regarded mediation and alternative dispute resolution specialist, with a wealth of experience particularly in commercial and business issues,” Mr Clark said.
In 2006 Mr Maxted, was one of the inaugural barristers to be accorded advanced accredited mediator status by the Victorian Bar.
He has held the positions of Deputy Chair and Chair of the Victorian Bar’s Dispute Resolution Committee.
“I congratulate Mr Maxted on his appointment, and I wish him every success in his new role as a Magistrate,” Mr Clark said.
