New appointment to the County Court of Victoria

Attorney-General Robert Clark today announced the appointment of John Carmody to the County Court of Victoria.

Congratulating him on his appointment, Mr Clark said Mr Carmody brought a wealth of experience to the bench of the County Court.

“Mr Carmody is a barrister with 28 years of experience, appearing mostly in the Supreme Court and County Court in both criminal and civil proceedings,” Mr Clark said.

“Throughout his career, Mr Carmody has developed considerable knowledge and expertise across all Victorian jurisdictions, and has worked across a broad range of areas including Coroners Court inquests, compensation cases, and in mediation.”

Mr Clark said Mr Carmody has provided ongoing mentoring and assistance to fellow members of the Victorian legal fraternity, and valuable case advice to solicitors and barristers during his legal career.

“Mr Carmody has shown a strong commitment to serving the Victorian community, providing pro bono work on behalf of charitable institutions, the Public Interest Law Clearing House (PILCH) and the Victorian Bar Assistance Scheme,” he said.

Outside the judicial system, Mr Carmody has acted as a Tribunal Chairman for the Victorian Amateur Football Association, and as a tribunal advocate for the AFL team Gold Coast Suns.

“The expertise and skills Mr Carmody has developed over many years of serving the Victorian justice system will be a valuable addition to the County Court,” Mr Clark said.

“Mr Carmody brings a wealth of legal experience to the Victorian courts, and I am pleased to announce his appointment to the bench today.”
