癌症病床被取消，受影响者甚巨

新数据显示由于州政府年初取消  Peter Mac 医院多达42个癌症床，成千上万个病患将因失去癌症治疗床而与 Peter Mac 的专业疗程失之交臂。

上周公佈的文件更显示，原本每年有大约 8000 名病患可在位于 Parkville 的新医疗中心进行治疗，同时计画也可带来额外四个手术室也都随之取消。

这一切的计画都犹如昨日黄花，此举也造成医院错失来自各界原订为新中心捐赠高达 2000万澳币的捐款。

工党政府应要停止无由的在意识形态上为反对而反对类似这样的私立医疗中心，也唯有如此才能让更多癌症病患能有效接受治疗并拯救更多的生命。

Patients miss out on cancer treatment

New figures show that thousands of patients will miss out on cancer treatment at Peter Mac hospital due to the State government cancelling 42 extra cancer beds for Peter Mac earlier this year. 

Documents made public last week show that around 8,000 extra patients a year could have been admitted for treatment at the new centre in Parkville, which would also have provided an extra four operating theatres. 

As well, the hospital has missed out on $20 million of promised donations to help the centre.

The state government needs to end its ideological opposition to private treatment centres like this, so that more cancer patients can be treated and more lives saved, and Melbourne can continue to develop as a world class centre for cancer research and treatment.
