袭警法受阻，政府阻挡法案通过

上週在议会，州政府对保护警察遇袭的法案投下反对票，并阻挡该法案通过。

新法要求蓄意攻袭警车的犯罪份子，处两年以上有期徒刑，该法案由自由党联盟提出，并获得上议院多数议员支持。

不过州政府于下议院中拒绝相关法案的辩论，并阻挡袭警法案通过。

修法迫在眉睫，时至今日，几乎每天都有罪犯为了逃逸，蓄意冲撞警车的报导。 倘若再不强化法制，推动改革，这些犯罪的恶行只会每况愈下，益发嚣张

Government blocks tougher law against ramming police vehicles

In Parliament last week, the State government voted against and blocked new laws to help protect police from being attacked.

The new laws would have required criminals who deliberately ram police vehicles to be jailed for at least two years.

The new laws were proposed by the Liberal Nationals Coalition, and supported by a majority of MPs in the Legislative Council.

However, the government rejected them in the Legislative Assembly without even allowing them to be debated.

Almost every day there are reports of criminals deliberately ramming police vehicles to try to escape.  Without stronger laws, these crimes will continue to get worse.
