“The costliest source of delay” yet Daniel Andrews scraps East West Link

The stretch of road between CityLink and the end of the Eastern Freeway is the costliest source of delay of all of Melbourne’s roads, according to a detailed report released today by Infrastructure Australia

If ever further proof was needed of the folly of Daniel Andrews’ last-minute, politically motivated decision to scrap East West Link, this is it.

Premier Andrews has axed one of the most important road projects we need to cut congestion and boost productivity and jobs, a project which even the Eddington report commissioned by the previous Labor government showed we need.

The top 10 delay cost corridors in Melbourne are set out at p.167 of the Infrastructure Australia’s Australian Infrastructure Audit, with the CityLink to Eastern Freeway corridor at the head of the list.  See also The Age’s coverage of the report at Road congestion to become a $9 billion drag on Victoria’s economy, report warns.
