St Kilda 林荫大道遭砍，墨尔本宜居环境受损

如要说起墨尔本最有吸引力与特色的路段之一，莫过于着名的 “林荫大道” (Tree-lined streets)。

墨尔本最有名的林荫大道位于 St Kilda 路上，从 Swanston ST 大桥一路行经战争纪念碑的路段。

如今曾经美丽的路段正遭受灭顶之灾，由于政府欲兴建铁路隧道，因此大肆砍伐该路段的树木，至今已有数百棵树木遇害。

发展建设固然重要，但如此破坏环境其实完全可避免。 倘若政府将地下隧道再稍微挖深些，树木就可躲过灭顶之灾。

虽然世事难以两全其美，我们都想要拥有更好的火车服务，但这样的服务应建立在一个尽量避免伤害环境，砍伐树木的途径上。

墨尔本之所以是墨尔本，人人都爱的墨尔本，岂不正是因为墨尔本环境优美宜居吗？

St Kilda Road tree felling weakens Melbourne’s liveability

 

One of Melbourne’s most attractive features is our tree-lined streets.

 

Melbourne’s most famous tree-lined street is St Kilda Road, running from the Swanston Street bridge along past the Shrine of Remembrance.

 

However, the State government has started to cut down hundreds of the trees in St Kilda Road as part of building a new rail tunnel.

 

What makes this loss so sad is that it could be avoided if the government dug the tunnel deeper.

 

We all want a better train service, but it should be built in a way that saves as many trees as possible.
