Box Hill North 劫车事件

上周又一劫车事件登上媒体版面，一个针对在 Box Hill North 无辜驾驶的劫车事件，一个发生在我 Box Hill 选区的劫车事件。

受害司机说，即使他曾住在阿富汗、巴基斯坦或伊朗，但都没有这次的袭击来的可怕。 试图劫车的人使用大砍刀和槌子攻击车辆，但有幸驾驶还能倒车后逃离现场。

这次事件表明，劫车不仅仅发生在遥远的地方，而是发生在像 Box Hill North 这样和平的地区，可能发生在你我的周围。 人们已无法如同从前般开车上街而不担心被抢劫与攻击的危险，世道已变，治安已败坏。

州政府对于犯罪的纵容使得犯罪人逍遥法外，他们无视法纪，他们肆无忌惮。 我们必须要停止对前线警力的裁剪，让法院对严重暴力的犯罪人士加重判决，而非轻忽纵容。

Motorist attacked in Box Hill North

Last week the media reported another violent carjacking attempt against an innocent motorist – in Box Hill North, in my own electorate of Box Hill.

The driver says he was more frightened in this attack than he ever was when living in Afghanistan, Pakistan or Iran. The attempted carjackers threatened the man with a machete and a hammer, but he was able to reverse his car and escape.

This shows that carjackings are not just happening “somewhere else” – people can’t even drive along the streets of peaceful suburbs like Box Hill North without risking being stopped, attacked and robbed.

The state government’s soft on crime approach has let offenders think they can get away with it. We need an end to the cuts to frontline police numbers, and we need courts to give strong sentences, not just a slap on the wrist, to violent offenders who commit crimes like this.
