Lots of rain, but government still buys expensive desalination water
There has been a lot of rain recently, and Melbourne’s water storages are now over 70% full.
Despite this, Victorian government has ordered $27 million of water to be produced by Victoria’s desalination plant.
Yet many of Melbourne’s water storages are so full that water will need to be poured out of our dams in order to leave room for the desalination plant water.
In other words, the government will be pouring away free rainwater so it can fit expensive desalination plant water into our storages!
The government should not have ordered this water from the desalination plant. Every Melbourne household and business will pay higher water bills because of the government’s foolish decision.
