Action should continue against crimes by union officials

Victoria Police have recently withdrawn from a joint operation with the Australian Federal Police to investigate violence, intimidation and other crimes by union officials.

This is very concerning, because an official investigation – the Trade Unions Royal Commission – found there is widespread crime in many parts of the union movement, particularly in the building industry.

The investigation recommended possible criminal charges against a number of Victorian union officials. The results of most of these investigations are still not public.

Union officials should not be above the law. Premier Daniel Andrews must explain why Victoria Police have withdrawn from important this taskforce.
