Victoria’s crime wave continues

The past week has seen more reports of families beint terrorised by juvenile criminals, many of whom have been released on bail after previous charges.

A young Melbourne mother is lucky to be alive after she was hit by a stolen car driven by a 16 year old driving on the wrong side of the road, after the youth was released on bail just 24 hours earlier. The same offender also stole a BMW last November.

In the suburb of Derrimut, residents are talking about hiring a security guard to protect their streets, after a youth gang armed with golf sticks smashed their way into a home in the latest crime.

In another incident, an alleged car thief on bail was chased by police at speeds of up to 150kph and was finally caught, yet a court allowed him to go free on bail again.

With this crime wave continuing daily, the Andrews government needs to legislate urgently reverse its watering down of juvenile bail laws and make bail much harder to get for those with a record of violent or dangerous crime.
