Melbourne celebrates Chinese New Year
It is wonderful that so many parts of Melbourne are holding festivals to celebrate Chinese New Year.
The festivals are a great way for younger Chinese-Australians to learn about their culture and heritage, and well as for Australians of all backgrounds to enjoy the fun, food and entertainment.
Last Sunday, I attended the Springvale Lunar New Year Festival. It was marvellous to see Buckingham Avenue full of people enjoying the shopping, rides and performances.
This coming Saturday, 17 February, the Box Hill Chinese New Year festival will be held from 11am to 11pm. I will have a stall there with calligraphy signs to give away and a competition to enter. Come along and see me there!
On Sunday, I will be attending the Chinese Youth Society of Melbourne Lion and Dragon Dance performance in the CBD at corner of Russell Street and Little Bourke Street, starting at 10.15am. This is always a wonderfully skilful, exciting and innovative presentation for the whole family to enjoy.
