New appointment to Magistrates’ Court

Attorney-General Robert Clark today announced the appointment of Jan Maclean to the Magistrates’ Court of Victoria.

Mr Clark said Ms Maclean is a barrister with more than 14 years of experience at the Bar. Prior to commencing at the Bar, Ms Maclean worked as a solicitor for a number of years following her admission to practice in 1985. Ms Maclean is also an accredited mediator.

“Ms Maclean has made a valuable contribution to legal practice in Victoria in the fields of industrial relations and employment law, anti-discrimination law and administrative law,” Mr Clark said.

“Ms Maclean has acted as counsel in industrial relations matters arising under the Workplace Relations Act 1996 and Fair Work Act 2009, handling issues including award interpretation, underpayment proceedings and termination of employment.”

Mr Clark said a significant area of Ms Maclean’s practice involved anti-discrimination and administrative law matters at both a State and Federal level.

“Ms Maclean has acted as counsel in matters related to discrimination and sexual harassment both in the public and private sector,” Mr Clark said.

“Ms Maclean has the skills and legal experience to make an excellent Magistrate,” Mr Clark said.

“I congratulate Ms Maclean on her appointment and look forward to her contribution to the court and the Victorian judicial system in the future.”
