Brumby and “Whiteboard” Hulls not fit to run Vic justice system

John Brumby and his Attorney-General are so out of touch with Victorians struggling to get justice in overcrowded courts that Labor’s top priority is introducing health checks for judges.

“While Victorian families are suffering because of Labor’s soft-on-crime approach and weak sentencing system, Rob ‘Whiteboard’ Hulls is spending his time deciding whether to introduce fitness tests for judges,” Shadow Attorney-General Robert Clark said today.

“Judges need to be fit to do their job, but John Brumby and his Attorney-General clearly aren’t fit to administer Victoria’s justice system,” Mr Clark said.

“Rob ‘Whiteboard’ Hulls is the author of the Brumby government’s cynical whiteboard election strategy, which states that the government should not introduce new policy but instead concentrate on finding the ‘cheese’ – a reference which shows Labor’s contempt for voters.

“Victorians looking for justice are facing record waiting lists and delays, yet the tired and out of touch Brumby Government does nothing to help them.

“Thugs, muggers and other violent criminals are terrorising Victorians because Labor won’t abolish suspended sentences for violent crimes, won’t reform bail laws to impose tougher penalties for bail breaches and refuses to abolish home detention that lets criminals serve pretend jail time at home.

“The Attorney-General is also doing nothing to tackle the longest criminal court waiting lists in Australia and won’t provide courts with proper IT systems instead of his bungled Integrated Courts Management System that is slower than the system it replaced and so slow that many judges are refusing to use it.

“Today’s announcement is devoid of new policy and once again shows that John Brumby and his Attorney-General are incapable of giving Victorians the justice system they deserve,” Mr Clark said.
