We need the Liberals' solutions

Over the past three years, there’s been a huge increase in violent crime and loss of respect for the law. We need the Liberal Nationals’ solutions to help make our homes and streets safe.

From 2014 to 2017, home invasions across Whitehorse and Boroondara have increased by more than 67 per cent, assaults by more than 25 per cent, and motor vehicle thefts by more than 38 per cent.

The soft on crime approach has got to end.

These are some of the solutions the Liberal Nationals team are committed to introduce that will help make our streets and homes safe again –

Strong minimum sentences for repeat violent offending, including home invasion, carjacking and armed robbery
One strike law for bail breaches
Deport violent criminals who are not citizens
End concurrent sentences for offences committed on bail or parole
Bail breach offences to apply to juveniles
Reinstate Neighbourhood Watch funding
Sex Offenders Public Register
More support for victims of crime
Police shopfronts in major shopping centres
Re-establish Police in Schools program
Mobile security cameras and other crime prevention initiatives
Compulsory drug and alcohol treatment for addicted young offenders.

I was pleased to be joined by my colleague Tim Smith - Former Mayor, MP and Shadow Minister, Shadow Minister for Education, this morning to announce that an elected Liberal Nationals government will provide $5.5 million for more classrooms and better facilities at Box Hill High School. It was a disgrace that the Andrews government axed the upgrade funding committed by the previous Liberal Nationals government in 2014, and a tragedy that last year the government ordered the school to cut its enrolments and its gifted student program. While it sounds good, I am just curious as to how many more classrooms and students you can expect to pack in there? From what I have seen when I toured the school last year it is already at capacity and open space is very sadly lacking. Upgrading current facilities of course, but you can’t honestly expect to squeeze more kids in there.

Now time to upgrade the sporting rooms at Howard Wilson Oval, to help further growth in sport, and allow better facilities to hopefully see some women’s sporting teams come from the area.

Don't waste money on Box Hill High. No land at all. Should be moved to Blackburn High where there is heaps of room to add to the already new facilities.

I will believe it when I see the work being done just all talk I believe

Daniel Andrews is planning to give $225 million of taxpayer money to the AFL to spend on Etihad Stadium.

The Liberals believe this $225 million should be spent on community sports club facilities instead.

Yes I watched comrade Eddy giving the biggest push for labor votes on a show purportedly about football. I don't want my tax dollars spent on this, the AFL is so greedy and treats the fans like trash. Spend my money on homeless Australians - not on a sporting venue!

This is absolutely outragious, they want to spend our money on a stadium owned by the AFL who make rediculous amounts of money by happily charging customers absorbent fees and charges, they did'nt get my vote last time and will certainly not get it this time, this money could definately be better spent on grassroots sport.

Then why didn't you committ to that during your last pathetic term. Stop trying to gazump a Government that is having a go for all Victorians not for the LNP rich mates and crims

Wrong Robert. I too want grassroots footy to benefit, but for grassroots footy to succeed, we must have quality AFL venues available for families to go to the football. Kids will then want to play footy and that’s where the long term viability of the game comes from. It is no use funneling this money into local clubs if families won’t go to the AFL and therefore, there will be no demand for local footy. Look at the overall picture please.

The economy is stimulated by the visitors to the stadium and will return the money spent 10 times over. Your proposal is just tell people what you think they want to hear, how will the money be spent on clubs ? Like all liberals they act first and worry about the consequences ( never ) . Here's what happened after the Level Crossing Removal Authority “upgraded” the drainage as part of the Blackburn level crossing project - instead of flooding the station's pedestrian underpass, it's flooded residents' homes all along South Parade.

The Andrews government and the LXRA need to get this fixed quickly, and provide a full and frank explanation of how it could ever have happened.

When Peninsula link was built it flooded our whole street, but they fixed it, new projects always have glitches. If we were to stop any progress because it MAY cause problems through the build, nothing would get done, would suit Robert Clark MP and his mob down to the ground. They are pissed off that this government is actually doing something rather than sit on our taxes.
