Court rules inquiry into Labor rorts can go ahead

The Supreme Court has ruled last week that an inquiry into allegations of misuse of public funds by Labor MPs can proceed.

Prior to the 2014 election, Labor MPs used public funds to pay for ALP campaign organisers and pretended they were employed as Parliamentary electorate staff. This is referred to as the “Labor red shirts rorts affair”, because the campaign workers involved wore bright red T shirts.

The Legislative Council of Parliament asked Victoria’s Ombudsman to inquire into and report to the community on what occurred. However, the government tried to stop the inquiry from proceeding.

Now the Supreme Court has rejected the government’s attempt to stop it, the inquiry can proceed. Let us hope it can find out and tell Victorians the truth about what happened.
