Parliament orders further “red shirts” investigation
In Parliament last week, Premier Andrews would not disclose how much he knew about the Labor Party scheme to misuse public funds to pay for campaign workers in the 2014 State election (called the “red shirts” affair after the red T shirts the workers wore).
Mr Andrews admitted he is a member of the Labor Party’s campaign committee, who authorised the scheme to proceed, but he avoided answering questions about how much he knew about the scheme.
Previously, Mr Andrews has denied in Parliament that the Labor Party had used public funds to pay for campaign workers in the 2014 election. This raises serious questions about whether Mr Andrews has told the truth to Parliament.
The Legislative Council, or upper house, of the Victorian Parliament has now ordered a further investigation into the “red shirts” scheme to find out more about what MPs were involved and what they knew about the scheme.
