Appointment of new Associate Judge of Supreme Court

Attorney-General Robert Clark today announced the appointment of Mark Derham QC as an Associate Judge of the Victorian Supreme Court.

Mr Clark said Mr Derham’s long and successful career in commercial and corporations law made him well qualified for this position.

After graduating in law with honours from the University of Melbourne in 1972 and being admitted to practice, Mr Derham served as an Associate to Justice Sir Douglas Menzies of the High Court before becoming an Assistant Parliamentary Counsel in Canberra.

Mr Derham joined the Victorian Bar in 1980, where he combined a busy and successful practice with distinguished service to the bar. He has held numerous positions on the Victorian Bar Council, including as Chairman from 2000-2001, and has been Director and Chairman of Barristers Chambers Ltd from 2009 to 2012.

Mr Derham was appointed as a Queens Counsel in 1994 and received the Centenary Medal for services to the law in 2000.

“I congratulate Mr Derham on his appointment and look forward to his ongoing service to the community and to the law,” Mr Clark said.
